My life in creativity

Being creative has always been an integral part of my life. I am the second son of a Trinidadian nurse mother and a Barbadian engineer father we grew up in the Buckinghamshire town of Marlow. From an early age I was always making my own entertainment and one of my earliest fascinations was my obsession with Origami

Dad worked for a paper mill and I was provided an endless supply of paper samples, off cuts in a variety of colours, textures and paper weights.

I remember my then C.E.O. came back from presenting a deck that I had produced, she told me that the client commented “who ever created that presentation, make sure he never leaves the company”.

To create brand identity for first ever British Land Black History Month [BHM] series of webinars in 2020

Also Available in Black is a discussion forum to raise awareness of the achievements and contribution made by Black British people.

Working in collaboration with the client we were commissioned to deliver webinars for the opening and closing of their BHM event.

Bringing the client along

Reassurance, trust and confidence were built with the client working in collaboration to turn an idea into a full production of creative branded materials.

During an initial kick off meeting it was apparent that the client was totally focused on the end presentation, but I was also keen to offer a wholistic creative deliverable by registering the domain, installing and implementing a WordPress site, designing associated email and branded social media icons.

For my client’s birthday I bought a plant and created a label that was Also Available in Black.

Brand identity from concept to implementation. Deliverables include: Powerpoint templates, social media icons, WordPress, Keynote Presentation, video editing deployment and podcast production.

Design and consolidate 400 pages of powerpoint segmentation data

To bring together global research into one easy to navigate document. This would be the ‘Rosetta’ stone for the internal LEGO teams to identify what and how girls engage with the LEGO brand. It included both the defining data and the descriptions which highlight what is unique about the Play Mindsets and Demand Spaces.

Divide and conquer

By developing a template with all the interactive navigation already built-in to the master pages, we were able to share the 7 sections with-in the design team to help speed up the production. The content was optimised for LEGO’s iPads, but being a PDF, it was also viewable on desktop machines too.

The work was very well received with the client and was embedded in the company. Follow on commissions inlcuded work on Boys Segmentation and the LEGO Adults research that has led to LEGO’s recent launch of Adult LEGO Sets.

The Green Lantern needed a visual identity and website revamp to stand out from rival local accomodations

The GREEN LANTERN VS GREEN LANTERN

With in the local vicinity there are two Green Lantern Accommodations. The brief was to move the platform from a local hosting service to a client side manageable WordPress site. Following the transfer, visually make the website stand against the competition and modernise the online experience to engage new and existing guests.

To help differentiate from the other guest house we built on the equity of the lantern which had been on the premises for 30 years.

Building on the strong diamond diagonal logo with modern custom typography.

Increased traffic & bookings

Despite the COVID Pandemic and slow down of travel and tourism, the Green Lantern was able to rely on repeat business and booking online. The installed Google analytics showed an increase in local visitors looking for a local break.

Many visitors who mistakenly went to the incorrect Green Lantern ended up staying anyway because of the great feedback and amities offered buy the host.

concolidate freelance designers work

A few freenlance designers had worked on the production of the series of books. My remit was to harmonise and complete the artwork, colour code and impliment cross chapter interactive tab navigation.

thinking outside the (take-away) Box

In keeping with the food analogy, I ordered containers so the client could take-away a set of driver cards. The packs were sent out prior to the workshop as a pre-read for participants to get familiar with the content and to help identify the key driving forces for the sector.

I was previously tasked to develop a program identity for Global Beauty Trends for L’Oréal. This identity was used widely internally for many internal L’Oréal research findings.

The next specific brief was to devise a series of engaging and memorable room sets to capture the attention of the Global CEO and to create a buzz around the launch of the new German Beauty Trends initiative.
